With a First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) account, checking your balance takes seconds — on your phone, on a computer, at an ATM, or by calling the bank. This guide covers six easy ways, explains available versus ledger balance, and shows how statements help you track money.
FAB was formed in April 2017 when First Gulf Bank and National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) merged. NBAD no longer exists as a separate bank. FAB is licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of the UAE. Its official website is bankfab.com — type it yourself, and never follow a balance-check link sent by SMS or email.
The 6 Easy Ways at a Glance
- FAB Mobile app — fastest for most people.
- FAB Online Banking — best on a computer, with full statements.
- FAB ATM — best when you are out.
- Phone banking — best with no internet access.
- SMS banking — text
BALplus the last 4 digits of your account to 2121. See the SMS section below. - Statements and mini-statements — best for an older balance or tracking spending.
If you hold a prepaid salary card such as a Ratibi card instead of a bank account, the app and online banking may not show your balance. Use the prepaid card portal instead — see our Ratibi card balance check guide.
1. FAB Mobile App
The FAB Mobile app is the quickest way for most account holders. It is on the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery. After login, your account and card balances appear on the home screen.
The app also manages accounts and cards, shows transactions with logos, categories and smart filters, and sends real-time alerts. You can sign in with fingerprint or face.
Open the app, log in, and look at your account on the home screen. Tap it for recent transactions. If the app shows no balance for a card, it may be a card-only prepaid product — use the prepaid portal in our FAB balance check online guide instead.
2. Online Banking
FAB Personal Online Banking, at bankfab.com, is the best option on a computer. Log in and open the Accounts view to see your balances, recent transactions and history. You can also view and download statements there — useful for checking an older balance, or confirming when money came in or went out.
Go to bankfab.com, sign in, and open Accounts. If you cannot sign in, do not keep guessing your password. FAB locks online banking after 3 unsuccessful login attempts — call 600 52 5500 and the account will be unlocked after verification. Call 600 52 5500 in the UAE, or +971 2 681 1511 from outside the UAE, for help.
3. FAB ATM
A FAB ATM gives you your balance in under a minute. Insert your card, enter your PIN, and select Balance Inquiry. You can also request a mini-statement, which prints recent transactions.
ATMs help when your phone has no battery or signal. Keep your PIN private and cover the keypad. FAB never asks for your PIN, OTP or password by phone, SMS, email or WhatsApp. Checks at FAB ATMs are free; a balance enquiry at another UAE bank’s ATM costs AED 1 per transaction under FAB’s official schedule of charges.
4. Phone Banking
Phone banking works with no internet and no ATM nearby. Call FAB customer care on 600 52 5500 in the UAE, or +971 2 681 1511 from outside the UAE. These numbers were verified on bankfab.com on 2026-11-07.
Have your account details ready, and be ready to confirm your identity. Never share your PIN, OTP or password with anyone who calls you, even if they claim to be from FAB. If someone calls and asks for those details, hang up and call 600 52 5500 yourself.
5. SMS Banking
SMS banking works from your registered mobile number. Text BAL plus the last four digits of your account number to 2121. The short code 2121 is confirmed on bankfab.com’s official FAQ, and BAL is the keyword in the majority of independent guides (one guide gives ABAL instead; no source supports the short code 6667).
If SMS does not work, your number may not be registered for SMS banking — call 600 52 5500. Never send your full account number, PIN or OTP by text.
6. Statements and Mini-Statements
A statement is a full record over a period, showing money in, money out and the balance at the end. A mini-statement is shorter — usually your most recent transactions — available at an ATM, in the app, or in online banking.
Statements help when your question is not “what is my balance right now?” They show whether a payment went through or when your salary was credited. If a statement shows a transaction you do not recognise, call FAB on 600 52 5500.
Available Balance vs Ledger Balance
Many people see two different figures and worry one is wrong. Usually both are correct. Your available balance is the money you can spend or withdraw right now. Your ledger balance is the total balance, including amounts still being processed. The two can differ when a payment is pending, a cheque has not cleared, or a card transaction has been authorised but not yet posted.
Use your available balance for spending decisions. Use transaction history and statements to check whether a payment has arrived. If the gap is large or does not close after a few days, call FAB on 600 52 5500.
